“MOUNTAIN MAMMA”
COLORED PENCIL ON PAPER
“18 X 30”
2016
I drew this as a preliminary sketch for a painting. I was inspired by Colorado sunsets and an old black and white photo of my grandma sunbathing in her yard as a teenager.Once in conversation, my mother told me that my late grandfather always wanted to live in Colorado. As a young man, he visited the state while in the Peace Corp. He said the sunsets were the most beautiful he’d ever seen. It was a beautiful synchronicity that I had just completed a drawing of the love of his life laying across the Colorado sunset. I like to believe that the image came to me from my grandfather as a love letter to my grandmother from beyond the veil.
