This painting was a commission. I was asked to incorporate a landscape from Ohiopyle State Park; a popular scenic overlook known as Baughman Rock Overlook. This painting pays homage to The Beatles. Their iconic music holds a nostalgia that carries the memories of youth and a time when life was full of dreams, exploration, and wonder. I drew inspiration from the style of illustrator, Alan Aldridge; self-declared “The Man with Kaleidoscope Eyes” from The Beatles “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds”. The stars in the sky represent the cherished moments of Lucy’s life which become priceless “diamonds”. She gazes up at her treasure nostalgically; a reminder that our true treasure in life comes from the moments we share with the people we love rather than our earthly possessions.
