This painting was a commission. The root system of Aspen trees is reminiscent of the web of fascia, veins, nerves, and meridians that carry energy, information, and nutrients through the body. The hands growing from the Earth are reaching to the heavens open to receive healing. The web of veins and branches resemble the pattern on butterfly wings which symbolize transformation and rebirth. “As Above, So Below” refers to the patterns created by the movement of energy that can be found in the microcosm and the macrocosm of life; the life force or “Chi” connecting everything at the deepest level.
