I was inspired by the work of my late grandmother. She painted nature, animals, flowers, and particularly the South West. I reflected on her quiet strength and unwavering faith through all the she had sacrificed and endured in the time that she lived. To Native cultures, the buffalo is a sign of strength. To the Lakota, it is a symbol of self-sacrifice and hope. The crown of cactus flowers that bloom in the dry desert climate symbolize the beauty that can thrive in harsh conditions. The moon rising over the desert cliffs; the third eye center of the buffalo skull, signifies the rise of the Divine Feminine. This painting is in honor of my grandmother; her courage, resilience, strength and love.
